Ben Bradshaw, a former BBC journalist and the MP for Exeter, is to take over as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. He becomes the third openly-gay Cabinet member. Nick Brown remains as chief whip and Lord Mandelson's department doubles in size and he is orfficially recognised as Deputy Prime Minister taking the title of "First Secretary of State".
Bradshaw was made a minister in the foreign office in 2001 and has subsequently held posts as deputy leader of the House of Commons and environment minister, becoming minister of state for health in 2007.
Bradshaw became the first MP to enter into a civil partnership when he went through a ceremony with Neal Dalgleish, a BBC journalist, in 2006.
