Campaign for Equality

LGBT Labour campaigns for two things:

  1. The Labour Party to adopt policies that will bring about equality for LGBT People; and
  2. Labour MPs, MEPs MSPs, AMs, Mayors and Councillors who can them implement equality for LGBT People.

LGBT Labour is currently campaigning for:

  • End the incitement of Homophobic hatred

Stop Homophobic HateLGBT Labour is focusing on the need for homophobic hatred to be a criminal offence.

Simon Burgess Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown welcomed the campaign saying: “We are backing the LGBT Labour campaign for a new criminal offence of incitement to homophobic hatred, to match existing protections for racial hatred, to be included in the forthcoming Criminal Justice Bill.”

Nancy Platts, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion, supported her saying: “It’s time to ensure fair and equitable protection through the criminal justice system for LGBT people.”

LGBT Labour’s co-chair, Cllr Katie Hanson, welcomed the support. “Much progress a has been made on equality but we still have work to do and tackling homophobic crime is the next step. The support of MPs and parliamentary candidates is vital and we welcome the comments made by Celia, Nancy and Simon.”

  • Civil Partnerships Rights across the EU.

The Labour Party is the only European Wide Political party to promise recognition of british civil partnership rights across the European Party in the 2009 Euro manifesto. We are campaigning to ensure that civil partnerships are recognised across the EU.

Campaigning for Labour in the general election and 2010 local elections.

We are campaigning for Labour candidiates, especially the 27 LGBT candidates being fielded by Labour. Labour has transformed LGBT rights since coming to office in 1997. We believe only a Labour government will continue those reforms and deliver equality for LGBT people.

We are also campainging for LGBT Labour candidates in the 2010 local elections on 6th May.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
