Labour’s Deputy Leader and Minister for Equality, the Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP today called on Conservative leader David Cameron to take action over Deeply offensive homophobic comments made by a Tory Party Councillor. Yesterday Wirral Conservatives suspended Cllr Denis Knowles for describing activists from Angela Eagle’s re-election campaign as “unusual and limp-wristed”. Labour’s Harriet Harman said the move is a step in the right direction but doesn’t go far enough. Harriet Harman MP said: "David Cameron's silence on this issue has been deafening. If the Tories have truly changed then he needs to take decisive action now and expel this Councillor from his Party altogether. If he doesn't it’s the same old story from the same old Tories." Angela Eagle MP wrote to David Cameron yesterday about the matter and is still awaiting a response. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed today that Councillor Denis Knowles has also been referred to the Standards Board for England for investigation.
