James is honoured and delighted to have been chosen by local Labour Party members to succeed Colin Burgon MP and fight in his home constituency at the next general election. He knows local people are concerned about jobs, public services and the environment and James looks forward to the campaign and setting out the clear choices people face on these important issues. Between now and the General Election James will be pulling out all the stops to win support from local people.

James is 32, grew up in the Elmet Constituency and attended Boston Spa Comprehensive School. In his spare time he follows rugby league and Leeds United as well as going running.

In 2002 he contested Wetherby ward and was first elected to Leeds City Council for Barwick and Kippax ward in 2003, and he currently represents Kippax and Methley ward.

Local campaigns he's been involved in include fighting opencast coal mining and for investment into Kippax and Garforth Leisure Centres. In the Council he has called for an end to the privatisation of home care services and opposed Conservative and Lib Dem plans to build an incinerator in the Aire Valley between East Leeds and Rothwell.

He's a school governor in Kippax and Micklefield and  helps out with local environmental groups like ‘Kippax in Bloom’ and ‘Friends of Billy Wood’ when he can.
