Jeremy was born and brought up in South Wales, educated at a local comprehensive school and then studied law at New College, Oxford. He was the first in his family to go to university.

He is a lawyer by profession and has worked both as an adviser to social housing providers, as a partner in a City law firm and also in business and so he understands the needs of public services as well as the priorities of the private sector.

He joined Labour as a teenager because he believed then – and still believes now – that it represents the only means of transforming society in the interests of the many, not the few.

He's also a charity trustee so he knows how vital the voluntary sector is today and how much we all depend on the hard work of volunteers and charity workers to provide much needed support in our communities.
