In 2002, Michael moved to Manchester, where he studied Philosophy and Politics, graduating with Honours in 2005. After graduation, Michael was elected to the National executive Committee of the British Universities North America Club, representing the interests of North West members in London. Shortly afterwards, he worked in the constituency office of former government Minister Kitty Ussher MP (Burnley and Padiham), prior to returning to his native Westcountry.
It is abundantly clear to Michael that many people feel left out in the cold by the mud-slinging that continues to take place between the Conservatives and the Liberals in Cornwall. He said,
"The interests of the people in this constituency are being sidelined and his raises serious question marks over local accountability. Now more than ever, it is time for a strong local champion to stand up to the Tories and the Lib Dems and show that people in South East Cornwall count.
Especially after the expenses scandal, politics must be about the future. It must be about connecting with local people and not taking them for granted. This means prioritising issues like the Saltash Bridge toll, the challenges facing our fishing industry and concerns over a proposed incinerator. I am committed to protecting the recovery for local people, defending public services for local families and to fighting as a champion for a fairer South East Cornwall, against this stagnant status-quo."
