MPs

ParliamentLabour's eight lesbian and gay MPs

LGBT Labour was delighted to welcome 8 out MPs back after the election. 7 MPs were re-elected from  the previous Parliament and they were joined by Stephen Twigg returning to the commons as the new MP for Liverpool West Derby.

We were sad to see David Borrow losing his bid to be re-elected in South Ribble. David had been a fantastic MP for the area since 1997 and a great patron of LGBT Labour and campaigner for equality. We also send out congratulations to all the other Labour LGBT candidates standing for hard fought campaigns.

Overall there the election has seen an increase in the number of out MPs, the total now standing at 21. An increase of out MPs across parties is good for democracy and good for the visibility of the LGBT community.

Labour’s MPs are:

Clive Betts MP                             - Sheffield South East

Rt Hon Ben Bradshaw MP              - Exeter

Rt Hon Nick Brown MP                  - Newcastle-Upon-Tyne East

Chris Bryant MP                           - Rhondda

David Cairns MP                          - Inverclyde

Angela Eagle MP                          - Wallasey

Gordon Marsden MP                     - Blackpool South

Stephen Twigg MP                       - Liverpool West Derby

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
